Cuomo Signs Law Decriminalizing Marijuana Use in New York

We are almost there! This is a big step, especially from Cuomo, who was against marijuana legalization up until very recently. Even if it’s just to get voters on his side for re-election, it’s the right stance on the issue. This will drastically decrease racially profiled arrests, which leads to less inmates in prison for minor (soon to be non) offenses.

“Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by laws governing marijuana for far too long, and today we are ending this injustice once and for all,” Cuomo said.

Lawmakers in New York state voted last month to eliminate criminal penalties for public possession and use of marijuana after efforts to legalize pot stalled.
